The requirement of a Chart Underlay for tactical displays is increasingly becoming a standard requirement for most systems. Moving from the era when Radar, Sonar and other Fire Control Displays did not have a chart underlay, most systems today require a chart underlay to be present. The aim of the chart in these cases is to provide a general appreciation of the geographical area as part the overall Maritime Domain Awareness. Hence unlike the Navigation requirements which mandate IMO compliance of the chart system, the aim of the chart system here is to provide an overview of the area of operations.
C2C DB Systems has developed a full fledged chart server and client system for use in CMS and other Radar / Sonar / MDA displays. The chart display system supports various formats like S 57 / S 63 Vector Navigational Charts along with standard GIS chart formats. This enables the warship to take up coastal navigation, amphibious operations, Coastal Bombardments etc.
